REP2020 REPLACEMENT FILTER

REP2020 REPLACEMENT FILTER

2018-03-22

REP2020 AIR FILTER WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • The REP2020 furnace air filter is a pleated air filter.
  • The real dimensions of the filter are 23 3/8'' X 23 3/8'' X 3 5/8''
  • It has a filtration capacity of MERV11

THE 3 CRITERIA FOR CHOOSING A REPLACEMENT AIR FILTER:

1st essential criterion to respect: the dimensions.
Your REP2020 Furnace Air Filter can be replaced with any pleated mechanical furnace air filter of the same size. As long as you replace your air filter with a filter of the same size and thickness.
2nd criterion which is your choice: filtration capacity.
The filtration capacity of an air filter for a residential furnace must be between MERV 8 and MERV 12. The MERV notation is used to evaluate the efficiency of the filter. Your REP2020 air filter is of MERV11 filtration capacity.
3rd criterion that is your choice: the brand.
The brand of the air filter does not matter. A MERV 11 air filter will filter the same way as any other MERV 11 air filter, no matter the brand, no matter how much you pay for it.

Here are the two replacement filters for your REP2020 filter that we offer:

MERV 8 ULTRA
MERV 11 MAXI
WHAT IS MERV NOTATION?
In 1987, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) created a classification system called MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) graded from MERV 1 to MERV 20. This classification is known and used throughout North America. For residential areas, it is recommended to use a filter whose capacity ranges from MERV 8 to MERV 12.*

We do not recommend the use of a MERV 13 air filter for residential applications. This type of filter may create air flow restrictionr, especially if the filter is not replaced regularly. An air filter of MERV 13 or higher capacity is very effective and will naturally offer more resistance to the passage of air. Your system may have difficulty circulating air, which may include problems such as freezing of the coil, failure of the drain pan due to overheating, breakdown of the fan motor, additional power consumption, etc. This type of filter is expensive and requires regular replacement due to its high efficiency. It is important to use an air filter that meets the recommendations of the furnace manufacturer.

IMPORTANCE OF MAINTENANCE OF THE AIR FILTER

Your furnace air filter is used to protect the inner coil of your heating system. A furnace air filter that is not replaced regularly will permit the accumulation of dust and dirt on the indoor coil. A clogged air filter causes a lot of air restriction that significantly affects the performance of your system. Your system will have to work longer to maintain the desired temperature, thereby increasing your operating cost while forcing your fan motor unnecessarily. An indoor coil that is dirty will be inefficient, which will result in less air conditioning or less heating produced by your heat pump or air conditioning. A dirty coil will corrode much more quickly than in normal operation, which can lead to expensive breakage. We recommend checking and replacing the filters on a regular basis.
